Although the definition of power is positive, as I searched for quotes relevant to the Word this week, I found that too often the word Power is used in conjunction with negative perspective.

“History is not a web woven with innocent hands. Among the causes which degrade and demoralize men, power is the most constant and most active.” Abigail Adams (wife of 2nd US president John Adams)

However, Power is a gift, and if used correctly, you can direct your life in a way that is fulfilling beyond your imagination.

One of the greatest Powers is in Now. Your ability to savor and relish your Now (your present moment) determines your future.

Here’s an example:

It was quite a weekend… you took the time to head to (the beach or the mountains… and now it’s Sunday at 6pm. The traffic is pure insanity, your a/c just died – and you stop at a roadside diner for a snack. You order the lemon sorbet from the menu and your overworked and underpaid waitress tells you “we”re out of sorbet.. In fact we rarely even carry it.”

This is your moment of Power.

Which reality will become yours? Will you argue in an agitated voice, further disrupting her day – after all, YOU are the CUSTOMER! (…progressively and actively dismantling your day)…

Will you exhale, put a pleasant look on your face, ask for an iced tea instead?

Imagine: if you get the waitress even more upset… she may need her break sooner, smoke extra cigarettes, fight with her husband on the phone and yell at her daughter that night.

“You can have power over people as long as you don’t take everything away from them. But when you’ve robbed a man of everything, he’s no longer in your power.” Aleksandr I. Solzhenitsyn (Russian Author/Nobel Prize winner)

Imagine: if you are pleasant, and ask her how her day is going, and a piece of gum, she
