This is a true story.  It happened  years ago, and I remember it as if it were yesterday. It began with a taxi ride to the San Francisco airport. My cabdriver was a nice man, in his late 30’s. For the duration of my 20 minute ride, I heard the story of why he had just left his wife of four years. He had just learned that she was sleeping with another man.

“So much pain“, he said to me, “I can hardly bear it.”

I’d felt this heartache once before… when I was in college. But my boyfriend was just doing what all boyfriends were doing back in crazy college days. Nevertheless – it felt like the end of my world.

The cab driver said “I can’t stand the thought of letting her go. I want to take her to the desert and live with her forever – alone, just the two of us. She is my whole world.  She is my everything.”

I thought to myself… wow… this is absolute heart-wrenching emotion.
It was honestly the deepest sadness, anger, love, lust – all rolled into one.  It was a passionate story – and passion is always interesting.

Passion – the word even feels good in your mouth.
Chocolate and berries and port wine.

The first kiss.

The fifth kiss.

Or, driving ambition…..competition…. dedication.

Pure want. Need.

What is your passion? Do you have one…? Have you had one? Close your eyes and remember it at it’s height…

When your passion is your hobby or your practice or your belief, well, then you have it forever…
This is when you can grow it… replant it… help it to thrive… allow it to reach for greater heights than you may have imagined.

“Only passions, great passions, can elevate the soul to great things.”– Denis Diderot

Close your eyes and breathe in the word passion.

This is my birthday week, and the word Passion is a gift to myself, as well as my gift to you, with gratitude that you are reading what I write. Have a week full of unbridled passion.

Have fun.

Philosophy In Action

Although passion can help drive determination, it's easy to mistaken passion as a sole source of vital energy. This week examine something you are passionate about and make sure you are practicing your passion(s) with balance in mind. Then, take one step to further enhance your passion; help it grow... allow it to thrive.
