It is with the heart one sees rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.“- Antione De Saint-Exupery

Emotional Intelligence (EQ)is defined as “The ability to motivate oneself and persist in the face of frustration; to control an impulse and delay gratification; to regulate ones mood and keep distress from swamping the ability to think; to empathize and to hope.”

What happens when your emotions arise from seemingly nowhere? Are you meant to surrender to them… or should you resist with your rational mind?

EQ may matter more than your IQ for survival in this world, if you are able to monitor yourself and use your emotions constructively. Sometimes emotion is powerful enough to move you to an important phone call, a necessary conversation… an embrace. You may find your EQ will stop you in your tracks and turn you in a new direction. Be sure to focus on AWARENESS of your emotional wave… and then have the willPower to reflect, exhale, and choose.

Emotion is the essence of humanity… our creative expression of energy.

Feelings or emotions are the universal language and are to be honored. They are the authentic expression of who you are at your deepest place.” – Judith Wright

There is a delicate balance when passion overwhelms reason, or logic overwhelms the heart. Perhaps the answer lies in Socrates; antidote “Know thyself”; awareness of both your heart and your mind. Breaking the habit of overwhelming or destructive emotion can be mastered with practice.

The potency of emotions; your passions, longings, wishes… are your essential guides to facing predicaments. Pinnacle decisions are too important to leave to the intellect alone! When emotions work in concert with intellect, extraordinary things happen, creative, magical occurrences. Emotions allow you to have hope, faith. Your emotions enable you to believe. (Have a Happy Heart Day!)

The truth is that we can learn to condition our minds, bodies, and emotions to link pain or pleasure to whatever we choose. By changing what we link pain and pleasure to, we will instantly change our behaviors.” – Tony Robbins

Philosophy In Action

As you connect with your very human condition, allow yourself to become empathetic with the people you interact with. Ah….EQ….one of my favorite topics. We as leaders of willPower have this….use it to influence others. So many leaders in the corporate world just do not empathy. Every day when I wake up go into work (my corporate desk job), I try to show that having emotions is part of being human and that…yes…others have emotions : ) To shut down emotions is so toxic to your soul, toxic to the inside of your body, and toxic on the outside. I try to teach leaders at my job that emotions are GOOD and it’s how you funnel them. Use EMOTION but use it right. Use EMOTION to CONNECT to others. It goes a long way. : ) Happy Valentine’s Day to you all. xoxo
