It seems that everyone is looking for commitments.
- A 30-day-money back guarantee.
- A one-year lease.
- ‘Till death-do-us-part.
It seems that once a promise is made, people relinquish doubt and fear. Once everything is spoken and written… signed and dated, then people feel safe to move forward onto “the next step”.
“Unless commitment is made, there are only hopes; but no plans.” Peter F. Drucker
Only – we really can’t count on those signed pieces of paper, can we? Every contract can be broken. A person can change their mind at any time, and crumble your secure little world right before your eyes. Attorneys will pay off their law-school loans based on society’s lack of commitment.
So – why is it that we feel safe with other people’s commitments, when we know that everything is still subject to change?
The only TRUE commitment is within yourself; in your heart and your mind. The commitment to be ccompletely honest and committed to another person… cannot be entirely solidified with a piece of paper – or a vow in the presence of friends and family.
The promise must be made within you.
“The quality of a person’s life is in direct proportion to their commitment to excellence, regardless of their chosen field of endeavor.” Vince Lombardi
Philosophy In Action
This week make a commitment to your home – a place that helps you to feel secure and stable. Organize a closet, clean out the garage, update your bedroom and notice the way that you feel at the finish of this project. The more solid the energy your home resonates, the more solid the energy you will feel.
