“Live as though you were to die tomorrow. Learn as you were to live forever.”—Mahatma Gandhi
In previous months I have talked about the benefits of some of Nature’s best healing gifts to us. From super foods to essential oils it is quite clear that purification of the mind, body and spirit is up to each individual’s willingness to connect with the sources of nature in more ways than one.
According to Colorstrology by Michele Bernhardt, “Neptune, god of the oceans, presides over the month of March”, Fair Aqua, this month’s color “evokes the qualities of trust and clarity.” Meditating on this color can help inspire you while teaching you to trust your inner voice.
This month’s color is very similar to the color of the 5th major energy center or throat chakra. Have you ever placed the hand on the throat and feel the powerful vibrations of your self-expression? The release of sound from the throat chakra helps to purify the energy in the body and begins the journey to connecting with a higher source. Having a balanced throat chakra means trusting your gut instinct and your inner voice and communicating that as authentically as possible. When you act on your freedom of expression, you will free yourself from worry on how your words are received by others as long as they are meaningful to you.
Healing is a matter of time, but it is also sometimes a matter of opportunity.”–Hippocrates
Were you the type to scream as a child when your friend put seaweed on your head or your shoulder while playing at the beach? As it turns out, seaweed isn’t just good for practical jokes. As previously stated, Neptune, the god of the oceans presides this month. In March 2013, we covered the importance of sea salt and this March we will explore the advantages of seaweed consumption.
Some research shows that seaweed benefits include reduction of the risk of breast cancer, inflammation, PMS and infertility issues but probably the best benefit of seaweed intake is the improvement of thyroid function. This is paramount since 52 million Americans suffer from thyroid disorders. Potassium and iodine levels in seaweed are quite potent so as always consume in moderation. All it takes is one small serving a week to reap the value of this super food.
Many of you may already be using Tea Tree Oil products for your hair or skin but pure Melaleuca (Tea Tree) promotes cleansing and purification. To name a few benefits, Tea Tree is anti-fungal, anti-infectious, anti-inflammatory and anti-viral besides being a kick-butt antiseptic. And, since we are still technically in “flu season”, Tea Tree is great for flu, sore throat and even ear infections. I mix Tea Tree with organic witch hazel to make a great facial mist and mix it with lavender for aromatic pleasure in my willPower infusion® and yoga classes.
