Foot Fitness: PLANK From Head to Heel

The Plank.  It’s such a simple exercise, with a multitude of benefits: from shoulder stabilization to arm strength, core galore and even mental preparedness… The plank is an exercise that can be practiced by students of all shapes and sizes and all fitness levels.  The Plank even offers the opportunity to become involved with community and competition on a global scale, as we demonstrate in our World Plank Gallery.

Consider the opportunity for Foot Fitness integration during the Plank. When holding a static exercise for 1 minute (…or 12 minutes), adding the Foot Fitness component will keep your brain busy and interested, offsetting the “boredom” factor and increasing your Plank duration (core endurance)! These Foot Fitness exercises will promote strength, flexibility and increased neural connectivity in your feet and lower legs. This will give YOU a smarter and more functional body, from head to heel.

To follow some of the exercises in this video, consider wearing a flexible, minimal shoe like the Vibram FiveFingers® (most specifically to to protect the skin on the top of your foot), or if you prefer barefoot, set up on a forgiving surface like a mat, carpet, or a BOSU®.

    Just did some of these moves during our 3 minutes plank yesterday. I love the ankle rolling. What a fab idea and a way to get some good ankling in. Love it too!
