My favorite, and most efficient workouts “turn on” my body from head to toe. I incorporate as many muscle groups as I’m able to in a short period of time, without rest. I still love my isolation exercises (call it ego, I guess), but even a bicep curl exercise can use a boost of inspiration. It’s my personal opinion that Foot Fitness should be integrated into ALL exercises.
What’s Foot Fitness? Just as you “get your fitness on” when you go to the gym, Foot Fitness is strength, endurance, flexibility and coordination… for your feet… your base of support.
Its a simple concept… get your feet out of those structured, supported BOXES (aka traditional Athletic Shoes) and slide into a minimal shoe (or barefoot). When you have the freedom of movement in your feet, you’ll find that your feet CRAVE stimulation… like the rest of your body… they want to be turned on! You will just need the dedicated self-control to make it happen, with every workout.
My favorite minimal shoe? Vibram FiveFingers®. They’re FREE of cushioning, support, and motion control. They have a pocket for each toe, allowing each little appendage to lengthen and grab, the way Mother Nature intended. Also – Vibram is a 76-year old soling company. That’s what they do: make good rubber to protect your feet. When you wear a minimal shoe – all you really need is some good rubber – it’s all about safety and protection… the rest of the experience is up to you.
I’ve learned that many people don’t know how to use a minimal shoe (it’s good for so much more than barefoot running). This quick video gives a great example of Foot Fitness integration into the Bicep Curl exercise.
Go for it… turn on those feet… it might lead to even more than just that. More videos on the way. Stay tuned.
